UAE Abaya Bling Bling

Abayas with bling - a controversial covering in some parts of the of Gulf. In Dubai, abayas that have jewels, lace, and other ornate applique are considered apart of the daily fashion routine for many Sisters there. While in other parts of the Gulf like Saudi Arabia, these abayas are considered too flashy for public wear.

The first video i believe is a snippet from a BBC documentary on abaya/fashion in the Gulf. The second is a fashion show from i don't know where with GORGEOUS bling bling abayas.

So does bing on an abaya negate its purpose? What do you think?

Calling all fashionistas!!! Dubai Fashion Week Starts TODAY!!!

This week we will be featuring designers participating in the event. *Please don't misunderstand and think that Im suggesting that these styles are representations of hijab.* This week is just about one word : PRETTY.

Today's designer is Amir Adnan. His choice of fabric and use of embroidery is timeless! Classy, regal and gorgeous. He designs fashions for both men and women. A great addition to Dubai's fashion extravaganza. His looks are great for weddings, wahlimas, henna parties - essentially ladies events. As pretty much all of the designers looks are in the show. But it would be nice to be all dressed up in one of these wouldn't it? :)
